Can you give a ballpark on how much the hotel would have cost you out of pocket? Also, is the 4-night/5-night thing a typo, or did you get a discount for booking an extra night?

ETA: Just checked out the Doubletree at DCA. Pre-paid internet rate is $175. One night for 8,600 AA miles would be a 2 cpm redemption. ^ But 1000 AA miles plus $112 is a 6 cpm redemption. ^^^

Of course, it's an airline stay for a midnight arrival, leaving as early as possible in the morning - I could priceline it for $50 - $80. If I'm not getting Hilton stay credit... <shrug>
