This consideration drops out of the comparison because you can earn 1.25 AA miles per dollar if you use the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card rather than the Citi AAdvantage VISA.
Some may not understand the mechanism - that is when you transfer 20K SPG to AA miles you get 5K bonus, so this works only when transferring SPG in multiple 20K trunk. And I believe there is a daily limit and yearly limit on that though never look into the details as SPG pts for hotel stay are quite valuable as well. I would only do the transfer should AA has another 30% bonus offer a la Summer of 2010. Or if someone needs to top up his AA account for an award. Else, SPG pts in the form of SPG pts are more valuable and more flexible.
