Act in accordance with TSA policy, and you're covered. Violate it, and you're on your own. The TSO here clearly screwed up, and the airport is going for full prosecution. I don't have a problem with how this turned out.
The problem I do have, and this applies to both TSOs and passengers, is how a gun owner can "forget" that a weapon is inside a bag. I don't know, perhaps it's my 20+ year military career, but I always know where my weapons are and whether or not they're loaded.
No sympathy here.
100% agreement. Anyone required to carry a weapon as part of their job should also be held to the same standard. Leave it in an airport restroom and you will find yourself both gone from the job and possibly facing criminal charges.
