I though the OP was a legitimate question as well, since AA's wording is poor. This is the same website that describes the relationship with Hawaiian airlines as follows:

Earn miles on Hawaiian Airlines within the Hawaiian Islands and redeem miles between the U.S. and Hawaii
(my bolding)

Kind of hard to fly between the US and Hawaii when Hawaii is already part of the United States! (Yes the obviously intended to say the continental US, but still, the sentence as written is nonsensical. It would be like saying I can walk between my house and my house.)

In fact the Hawaiian Airlines section twice uses the "between the US and Hawaii" wording.
