That's true and I have a locked iPhone 3GS but also an unlocked 3G modem.

I used the modem on a MacBook Pro and then shared that connection via Wifi with the iPhone last year.

This year, I'll either get a Mifi or a portable Cradlepoint for a trip to Sicily.
