I don't think it's the delay, rather the condition of the luggage that has upset the OP.

I don't see any case for compensation although reimbursement for a new case may have been a vaild request, as would paying for necessities for the two days.

A request for compensation seems to me to be just an attempt to jump on a bandwagon becoming more prevalent in the UK and one which should not be encouraged.
