I like
2wheels's idea. It also seems to be the de facto standard for sites these days.
Would it at least be possible to detect that the user is accessing from a mobile device and have either a popup or a link at the bottom to the mobile site? Many times I go to sites and don't even realize they have a mobile version that might work better.
My pet peeves regarding mobile sites:
1) Sites that automatically redirect you to their mobile site with no way of accessing the full site
2) Sites that automatically redirect all incoming deep links to the mobile front page (making accessing a specific page via Google an impossibility on a mobile device)
So, if it ever comes to it, I'd like
2wheels's suggestion to be implemented, but make sure you avoid my pet peeves.
