Of course you would do it the other way round (first the castle, then the ferry ride).
Also it is worth knowing that tickets are checked inside the ferry companies building before entering the gangway, but not on the boat or upon leaving. Furthermore you are not required to disembark from the ferry once you reached the other side of the Öresund. Reason is that there is a bar and a restaurant on the ferry so people often choose to stay and ride the ferry back and forth for a while on a single trip ticket which is kind of intended by the system. Then you should make up your mind on which side you want to leave and make sure to not leave accidentally on the wrong shore.
Third thing coming to my mind: There is the "Around the sound" 249 SEK round-trip ticket, which allows you to take the trains around the Öresund on both sides as much as you like as well as to cross the bridge once and to cross by ferry in the other direction. You can start wherever you like, you got two days for the travel and in my opinion this i a really nice offer. I did it last weekend with stops in Helsingborg, Helsingør, at the Louisiana museum and "København". You need a full day to do that though and you can easily fill two days if you prefer.
My understanding is the around the sound ticket is no longer sold in CPH. We bought the Copenhagen card for that day it was 220DKR but covered the train to/from CPH,admission to Lousiana(Open till 2200 most nights) and discounts for the ferry/Kroenberg Castle. We bought it at around 1045 so the agent was nice enough to write 1100 so we were able to use it to get into Rosenberg castle at the opening and a few metro ride to get there.
Cheers
Howie
