I definitely did not need to provide a guarantee or a letter of credit, just a reference. The thing is they have customers from all around the world and they have no way to easily check your credit rating, etc. because they are a UK entity. They can't just pull your German/Swedish/whatever credit file.
So I think they have different levels of due diligence based on your history, your location, who you bank with and various other Amex risk criteria.
There's no blanket requirement for an actual bank guarantee.
I think they will give amex ic card to indonesia citizen since the sole issuer mean only danamon bank that have right to issue amex in indonesia (no other bank in indonesia can issue amex) and issue amex edc. the bad thing here is, danamon is not top 5 large bank in my opinion. So amex here like dead card. Not like at malaysia that handle with maybank. when i visit malaysia, amex promotion is everywhere.
about ic card, its me that go to them, not amex uk seek customer at indonesia. its a different situation and in legal eye, its legal.
i have make a call to make sure. and they said. its 15k usd bank guarantee, and they ask issue bank international bank like citi or hsbc. so i will try to ask to citi tomorrow.
the reason they ask guarantee is they can't get my credit score. i understand they like person want to lend money to anonymous person, and what is the guarantee for them beside bank guarantee right?
