IF one reads the OP's post, it states he "exchanged a few emails with the gm requesting an upgrade and the possibility of a paid amenity"

Nowhere does he indicate he requested an early-check in, nor does he say the GM ever agreed to anything at all.

how can the hotel be faulted for not delivering on something which was never requested or agreed to?
