Status, no but mileage-earning, yes. Whenever I do RTW tickets that include QF legs, the AA number, status etc. always prints on the boarding pass; however, the miles never, ever credit automatically. No amount of discussion with check-in agents, writing to AA/QF (neither of whom could be bothered to even reply) has been able to fix the problem. It's not a problem with CX, BA or AY (and I have no experience with IB or LA and only limited experience with JL).
If I book a ticket on the QF website, it always refuses to accept my AA number, insisting that it's not valid. I've learnt to make the reservation without it and then go back in and add it in, which seems to work.
The AA FF number bug on the QF website also affected QF customers such as myself. The good news is that all my more recent bookings don't seem to have been affected.
Not sure why your not earning miles automatically though. My partner is an EXP and has never had to retro-credit a single flight! In fact the flights seem to be crediting very quickly these days.
