Nishi-Azabu where Muse is does have an empty feeling about it. Some people like the low key aspect of it. Agree that it is not like the vibe in Roppongi or Shibuya. I suspect what the doorman said was probably correct. Many Japanese clubs do not get busy till 1 or 2 in the morning. Haven't been in awhile, so I it probably isn't as popular as it used to be.
Hope you enjoyed your trip though.
