i did that 4 years+ ago when the new BKK airport was opened. no immigration in BKK, just at final destination in Chiang Mai.
I said that you will pass through immigration since I wasn't aware that USM has immigration. I found that out just now by going to the more appropriate forum and searching for "immigration samui" and found the following threads.

But you also seemed to be concerned about being able to get the liquids through the security between int'l and domestic airsides.
But at the same time you are saying that you are concerned about the liquids being able to go through security.
