Recommend Navigo Découverte. Unlimited entry and exit is great. For those under age 25, consider Ticket Jeunes for week-end trips. Don't forget to carry your ID when using Ticket Jeunes. However, it seems like they never ask ID upon ticket inspection.

The machines don't take non-chipped credit cards. Some machines do take cash though - although I'm not sure if all do.
Like others said, some do take non-IC credit cards.
