I wear them all the time, and I don't recall it ever having been an issue in any airport in any country. Sometimes I have set off the metal detector and then been wanded; in these cases, I don't necessarily know what the problem was, so I can't swear that they have never set off the metal detector. But I don't think I have ever had to take them off, anywhere.

It might depend how big and garish they are

I have found them totally consistent (that is, completely indifferent) on this particular point. I'd hang on to the shirts
