That would be my first suggestion, with LX to LAX as a close second (I assume you want to be in C). AC via YYZ wouldn't be crazy on this route, either.

It'd certainly avoid it if I could. The advantage of flying to LAX rather than the East Coast is that you're actually on one plane long enough to eat, digest
and get some sleep before you arrive. Depending on the time of year, you also reduce your exposure to the risk of weather-related delays and cancellations. LAX-LAS is short enough to be tolerable in any carrier, in Y.
