As far as the possibility of there being a higher mileage bonus at a future date on the credit cards, I took the following into consideration:

1. There's been no new checking/debit offer, which may be comparing apples to oranges, but may also indicate a slowing down of CO offers in general. I think others are agreeing with this.

2. Some of the newer Chase UA offers were not fee free the first year. Yes, I'd probably go for a 50K offer with a $95 fee myself - but I don't find 30K for no fee with a $50 statement credit all that painful.

3. The banker hinted at a possible pending elimination of, or change to, the debit card transactions providing a means to waive checking account fees, much as the DD requirement has changed. I wouldn't be surprised at this. Since the business credit card waives the checking account fee, I thought it beneficial to position myself in advance against that possible loss, while there was still a credit card with a bonus to get!

Hey, I'd be thrilled if a better CO credit card offer came along & some of the FTers who have provided so much useful information to me were able to take advantage of it. I hope it happens! But I'm cool with the 100K miles each we got that day for one hour with the Chase banker, and not overly optimistic that a better deal is on its way.
Trust me, there will be bonuses to be had. With Citi's much larger bonuses for the AA cards, eventually Chase has to do something with the UA offerings.

With the more stringent policy Chase has had regarding card churning, I would want more than 30K miles to open a card that may prevent me from opening other Chase card(s) within the next 6 months... The 100K BA, 50K UA and 60K or 80K PC pts are all better offers than the CO's.

I do understand the excitement of 100K miles - but remember, while they seem to come on one day just an hour at the bank, they actually represent a full year's worth (or worse, a one time only worth, if no more checking account bonus) of miles... It is good but not as nice as the BA offer that started the mega bonus trend from Nov 2009.

It does not concern me if they eventually eliminate the debit card transactions as means to avoid fee, as by then our accounts are "aged" enough to be canceled without danger of losing the bonuses. I can see them putting a minimum amount requirement on the transaction, but unlikely they would eliminate that - for if that is the case, many folks would ditch extra checking accounts and only keep what they view are necessary. Every bank wants the customer staying with the bank instead of leaving the bank - not everyone has DD nor wants to get a credit card from the bank, so the debit card transactions most likely remain as one of the options.
