I didn't see him ask for a complimentary upgrade, so why are you guys telling him that he has no chance. The correct answer is that you can upgrade either with revenue or with miles, and or miles and copay depending on your fare class.
(1) He is a new silver elite, so naturally looking for answers on how his elite status will benefit him.
(2) He asked about being "bumped to first class seats"
(3) He asked about the "odds of
getting upgraded with a majority of the first class seats open" (note the passive nature of the phrasing)
It's about 95% certain to me based on those facts that he was asking about complimentary upgrades. @:-)
