It took a long time for my relatives in India to understand the time difference and they were even more perplexed by different US time zones.
It took my wife a while to explain time zones to her relatives in China. Fortunately it's expensive enough for them to call here that middle of the night calls have been quite rare and I don't think all of them have learned it yet.
