I agree to the first part, but to the second, why do they lack an extensive connecting network? Between B6 and AA in JFK (forgetting DL and any other possible partners,) they seem pretty set. That's better than DL's network from JFK and US's network from PHL. CO/UA will have a great network from EWR as does DL from ATL, but they at least compete. And they also have more flights to NYC than DL has to ATL.
