This is one of the most angry and aggressive threads I've experienced here on flyertalk in my 12+ years of posting, so I risk my sanity at posting anything, let alone a request for personal recommendations

Staying for 3 nites next weekend as a pre-xmas treat for the family using points. I always see upgrades as a bonus, I don't "bank" on them as a diamond, and can't stand some of the pompous nature from some 5star hotels (I find the NY Waldorf awful). Hence I've struggled to related or "get" some of the discussion on this thread. I looked at NOR1, but decided that 49Euro per night for Imperial Lounge was not worthwhile as a) We get full breakfast in the main restaurant, b) There is only so much drink we can consume, c) we should get the gold/diamond lounge access, d) I'd rather spend the 150euro saved on some nice meals. Which brings me to my request......

Any recommendations for restaurants, either walking distance to the hotel or in the centre? Nothing pompous or excessive expensive. Also needs to be suitable for child aged 9 (Pasta and Pizza it is then !).
