Like I said, I have done my own slaughtering, country hog killings are a big deal, I was never in need of desensitization. We learned that it is where we got our food. And I love bacon. And country ham.

I helped my aunt kill chickens. I will not describe the process at the fear of offending. It was what we did, if we wanted chicken to eat. I like pan fried chicken, too, but ham is better. And we got some really interesting pillow stuffing. Chicken feathers are not duck down but are a reasonable substitute in a pinch.

On the other hand, the hogs and the chickens did not seem to be cool with it.

It only requires desensitization if what your doing is clearly wrong, and you really know it, and it is necessary to overcome what the mind knows is wrong to live with your actions. Providing animal protein to nourish ones family is a natural and non-guilt producing act.
