That is ridiculous. What if I purchase a Y ticket, say KUL-HKG-JFK-HKG-KUL, and upgrade the HKG-JFK-HKG sectors (no stopover in HKG either way)? Would I get 2 pieces of 70 lbs on those sectors and 2 pieces of 50 lbs for the KUL-HKG-KUL sectors, effectively making the latter my allowance for the whole trip? Or worse, 20kg for KUL-HKG-KUL (if the sector split is going to be enforced)?
