If you earn status now it will be good until end of February, 2012. Earn in January, good until Feb 2013.

Of course this is anecdotal, but it seems lots of people are getting the bonus for this particular promotion pretty quickly. And based on a similar experience a few years back, my understanding from AMEX is that you will be granted status for the year when the transaction processed, i.e. if you 'earn' in December it will go thru Feb. 2012. As they say, your mileage may vary. Hope that helps.
