Le Parker Meridien, New York -- a hotel I've grown to appreciate, as I love the location and have always received a Platinum upgrade to a Junior Suite, and my stays have consistently been without incident.

But this was a first. Shortly after arrival, some friends are coming to our room join us for a drink before heading out for dinner. We have two suitable glasses on the minibar. No problem, there must be two glasses in the bathroom.

Bzzzzzzzzt. They've opted for cutesy shot glasses -- truly, shot glasses -- in the bathroom, to go along with their tall skinny branding theme. Form over function. Stupid choice. Oh well, I'll call room service.
Me: "Hi, I wonder if I can get a bucket of ice delivered."

Room Service lady:
"There's an ice machine on your floor."

Me: "Oh, ok, great. Thanks. I wonder if I could I get two drink glasses delivered?"

Room service lady: "There is a charge of $6.40 per glass."

Me:
"I don't want to buy them -- I just want to use them."

Room service lady:
"Sir, there is a charge of $6.40 per glass. You still want 'em?"

Me: "No thanks."
Absolutely incredible. I've never encountered anything like it. $12.80 charge for the use of two water glasses. Shame on them.

I spend about 75-80 days/yr in NYC and know most Starwood options well.
Yes this is not good for NYC and should not happen.Perhaps they have lost so many glasses in the past but this should not happen to any guests especially those who are their most frequent.
