There are a lot more pissed off people than you think out there. A lot of kettles I've talked to have changed their minds once I've explained it to them and showed them the pictures of the scanners.
There will always be some of the "anything for security" crowd. Many others just don't know and TSA's trying very hard to keep it that way. Opinions often change when presented with factual information. TSA should try that some time.
