You can use the Simple Mobile SIM for the month you paid for, then it will remain active for either 2 months or 60 days. As soon as you go over this limit you have to pay for reactivation. So on a rough basis assuming you'll use it every 3 months it will cost you $40 every quarter to keep the SIM active
I'm using one right now in my iPhone and am pretty happy with the service. Not having 3G is a bit of a pain but EDGE is basically fine for my needs
