A little back ground first. I booked tickets on Copa for a trip to Lima this Thanksgiving for me and my partner. Now I happen to be Platinum on Continental but my partner is Gold on Star alliance. After reading up some on this forum I found out that I should split our reservation in to two separate locator numbers so that I can get the automatic upgrade 4 days out if available. Seems if you’re on the same record locator, the person with the least amount of status will dictate where you are in the upgrade list.

So now I have another dilemma, what is the best way to try and get my partner upgraded too? Remember he has no status on Continental except for Star Gold. Is there a way to get the upgrade to go through for him before we get to the airport? Will we have to go through the airport lottery? Seems that he would be second on the list if it’s done at the airport. Platinums, then Platinum’s traveling partner, then golds then gold’s traveling partner etc.

I’m only asking because it’s Copa and not Continental. I think the procedure is exactly the same but not 100% sure.

Also, do we get to use the Star Alliance Lounge? Copa isn’t officially part of that Alliance so not sure there either.
