I always wondered why airlines don't differentiate between elites/superelites for "tiebreakers" based on total status miles. I'm sure this would generate more income for airlines, as FF would want to be higher on the "tiebreaker" list and would still try to generate more status miles. As it stands many FF hit either E/SE then "relax" and either fly less or use AP mile redemptions...
