I am a bit confused about the video monitor situation in the front of 763 2-class configuration equipment on an LAX-HNL flight. Not being a regular AA passenger, I have done extensive searching of past discussions on this and related topics, but I am still am not clear about the monitor situation.
I do understand that AA does not have in-seat monitors on this equipment and on Hawaii flights does not provide loose DVD players to J/F passengers. This means that front-of-plane passengers to HNL must rely entirely on fixed monitors.
But, seatguru.com (763N) and the AA.com seat maps (both 763 2-class and 763 2-class new look) show a different story regarding monitors in the front, though none of the 3 shows side bulkhead (AB or HJ) monitors.
In this thread
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum71/HTML/013674.html diverdsk states that "There are also no small LCD screens on the window side bulkhead seats, so you have to strain your neck to watch the main screen in front." In the same thread emoraver states " I was in bulkhead going from STL-HNL in NOV, by the window, and I saw 'Men in Black II' just fine on the center screen. "
And the opposite is said here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum71/HTML/016058.html by inlanikai "...reconsider 2H. The TV screen is a small LCD screen on the bulkhead and its a real stretch to look at the "big" screen in the front of the cabin, partly because of the glare."
The reason for asking is that in November we will be flying LAX-HNL-LAX with a 2x 1 way upgrade and I put us in 2H&J both ways. For the outbound day flight, we might want to kill some time watching a movie, but preferably without ending up with a neck strain for our 2 week Hawaii stay. Looking at seatmap.com, it looks like we will be in a 763 2-class without the new look (there is a row 13 AB instead of the big lav). AA.com shows no aisle monitors on that equipment, contrary to what aa.com shows for the 'new look interior' config: aisle ceiling monitors between rows 3 and 4.
so a call for help to all who have experience with this situation:
1) are there side bulkhead monitors in J/F AA 763 2-class?
2) if no for 1) in your opinion, is it possible to comfortably view the main screen from 2AB and 2HJ, or would you advise moving to DG seats?
I would like to state that in no way am I attacking or doubting the people quoted, as it is possible that they were referring to different equipment, and it could be that it really depends on the actual plane, not just the equipment type. Since I found out about FT, I have found it a very useful source of information and where possible I have tried to contribute.
I would also like to take the opportunity thank Matt from Seatguru.com for his work in providing a really great and user-friendly source.
Edited to add that I did check airliners.net and jetphotos.net, but none of the 5 available AA767 interior pictures answer any of my questions.
Thanks in advance.
