i really was starting to worry and didn't really want to go to SIN overnight...although i would have. this way, i spent about half what i'd spend on a SIN-run...will use certs/points for hotels in SFO and i'm all set.
I have a friend in PDX who is doing the SIN run on an overnight next month and she's spending around $1500. Too bad she bought the fare last week; she probably could have done the same as you--Bought a positioning flight and done back to back runs.
