You in your mind are jumping to the conclusion that BECAUSE I noticed a damage to the bag that night, I went looking to see if the Baggage service desk was open. NOT. Hope that helps.
No I understand you perfectly. Right, you didn't notice the damage till you got home. Although you did notice that the baggage office seemed closed, we don't know what would have happened if you had noticed the damage while at the airport and had tried to contact CO personnel. Given that CO personnel are at EWR 24 hours, they might have helped you as several posters have suggested. We don't know what would have happened IF you had noticed the damage. You are jumping to the conclusion that you would have received no help. I am using logic to suggest that you are jumping to a conclusion that is unwarranted.
