I haven't bought drinks with a credit card (still have lots of drink coupons), but do the machines they use to swipe the card give you a paper receipt? If so, seems that would tell you right then if it worked. If it doesn't, ask the FA to show you the screen where it indicates the amount charged to see what number is showing. Finally, if all else fails, look at your statement to see if you're being charged $6 but with a credit on a separate line for the discount.
