Agreed! I have flown since 2005 on an average of 95k revenue miles per year and HAVE NEVER been VDB'd...I have been IDB'd a few times but was refused compensation for various reasons such as weight restricted regional jets...and other factors like "weather" and crap...It is disappointing.
This happened once to me - MUC-EWR on Lufthansa - perhaps a year or so ago. Comp was 500 euros, when it was around $1.55/Euro at the time, so over $750US. This would have caused a connection in Boston, and unfortunately I didn't have any extra time for connections (had a family party or something similar going on then). Hasn't happened since!
