What would you do? Bump, or biz?
ORD-SFO
GA needed volunteers, offering $400 for a flight 90 minutes later.
I had a seat in C in a new-config 763, and would be exchanging for an aisle in E-minus in a 752
I had the 90 minutes to spare, btw.
Would you take the bump and the $400 in certs, or keep the plush life for the 4.5 hour flight?
I took the deal, and had a decent trip after getting a last minute seat in E+. I wold not have taken it for less than $300 tho, and that would have been a maybe...
What would your threshold have been?

Great question! I think $250 would have been my cutoff amount.

definitely would take for $400 no question! i've done that in ORD many times, and sometimes get re-bumped again and again. and then eventually end up in F. Was it F0 at the time of rebooking? Sometimes I've gotten them to book directly into F on a bump, though not very often.

That would be tough for me. I took a bump today IAD to JFK for $400--traded a CRJ exit row for 5A on a CRJ with....Delta. First non UA flight for me in a long time. First non *A flight in a really long time. It's only 58 minutes wheels up to wheels down though--not 4.5 hours.
I guess another way to think about it--would you have paid $400 cash for the E- to C upgrade SFO to ORD? If not (I wouldn't) then you probably did well to take the bump!

Hmm I'd probably take the $400 as theres always a chance UDU or E+ could kick in.

E-? Probably a middle? No. E+ I might do it but I really like the new C. An E-cert isn't $400 in cash so I don't think that is the right comparison. Its really more like $200 or $300 in cash.
E+ on a flight 3 hours later, probably.

Was in a similar situation recently, could either fly:
DEN to SAT in F, or
$400 vouchers and fly Y to Austin
This would have required that I drive from Austin to San Antonio and arrived in SAT about 2.5 hours later than planned, around midnight before adjusting to CDT for a morning appointment.
I kept direct F.

Agreed! I have flown since 2005 on an average of 95k revenue miles per year and HAVE NEVER been VDB'd...I have been IDB'd a few times but was refused compensation for various reasons such as weight restricted regional jets...and other factors like "weather" and crap...It is disappointing.

Absolutely would have taken the bump. ORD-SFO is barely enough time to enjoy the lie-flat!

I've never gotten to experience the new C so I'd be tempted to take that just for the experience. But $400 is a pretty solid amount, so other than my curiosity of the new C seat, I'd probably take the voucher.
