Was in a similar situation recently, could either fly:
DEN to SAT in F, or
$400 vouchers and fly Y to Austin
This would have required that I drive from Austin to San Antonio and arrived in SAT about 2.5 hours later than planned, around midnight before adjusting to CDT for a morning appointment.
I kept direct F.
