There was a lot of discussion over in the UA board why with so many planes still in need of repainting, some repainted planes were already being stored. Airlines are companies without rhyme or reason, it seems.
As far as DLs ex-NW 744 is concerned, I always enjoyed the ride upstairs during my NW years. I don't need to sleep during the ride, just be comfortable reading a book or looking out the window, so horizontal or nearly flat played no role for me. There just is no better place in upstairs in a 747, was like this from the early 100 series and is up to now. Sadly no US carrier has decided on the 748 as of now and probably never will. Have to catch it on a LH flight then.
