Thanks for the update. To each his own, but I really do think you are missing out on a lot of Alaska by basing yourself in Anchorage for 4 nights. There is just not enough a days' drive from Anchorage to keep you busy for that long unless you love cities, museums, traffic, and shopping. Or you will end up with long travel days to somewhere and back the same day. It is a common mistake for first-timers to Alaska unfortunately.

And I travel around Southcentral Alaska a lot and rarely pack and unpack, and certainly not every day. I leave my suitcase in the car and I just pull out the few things I will need for the night and put them in my daypack. The only time my suitcase comes into the hotel is for major repacking or when I do laundry.
