The Air NZ website does list Papeete but under Tahiti. Similarly Nadi is listed under Fiji, Apia under Samoa, Nuku'alofa under Tonga, Port Vila under Vanuatu and Noumea as New Caledonia. Niue is listed as Niue and Norfolk Island as Norfolk Island.

The Cooks get my vote too as an all round paradise destination without the extreme costs of French Polynesia.
