In regards to French Polynesia, the previous poster is absolutely correct. If you're going out of your way to visit "Tahiti", do NOT actually stay on the island of Tahiti. Moorea or Bora Bora is the way to go. Moorea is a cheaper alternative as there's a one hour ferry that will get you there from Papeete (rather than having to fly like you would were you to go to Bora Bora). We stayed at the Sheraton on Moorea (now a Hilton) and it was absolutely gorgeous. Stayed in an overwater bungalow and it's an experience we will never forget. You can also rent a car from the hotel to tour the island. It's an absolutely beautiful place. Although I've never personally visited Bora Bora, I've heard that the scenery is even beautiful than Moorea......however I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be disappointed staying in Moorea.
