I believe your idea may not yield the result you're looking for. Typically, the airline doing the matching will also want to see a sufficient amount of previous travel, not just a quick promo that got you to the competing airlines elite status. You will need to submit last year's travel history in addition to a copy of your elite card.
That said, it never hurts; except the money you may be spending for the "temporary" elite status on US.
Good luck!
This seems inconsistent with the compilation of airline "matching" requirements at the beginning of this thread. For some it says you need only submit your membership card OR mileage report. Do all require a mileage report?
The broader question is: can one get another airline to provide silver status as a match to US Airways Silver Preferred Status obtained for the 90-day trial period? With the recent "hop, skip, and jump" promotion, for some it is also much easier to get or retain gold, platinum, or CP status on US than any other airline. Does that impact the willingness of other airlines to status match US?
