The bags were in my line of sight, but not in front of me. I'd have liked them to take them over, if only so my wife didn't have to deal with the bags and the kid. But if I was by myself, yeah, they would've been there.

The TSOs really did seem confused by my opting out. I'm not sure how many opt-outs they deal with. They had to call the supervisor and search for a male TSO who could pat me down. Plus one of the TSOs asked me "you're opting out?" in the most confused-sounding voice.
