EVA check-in are usually pretty relaxed. TPE would be OK. But the HKG authorities were stopping people at the entrance to security when I passed through earlier this year. Anybody that "looked" oversize/overweight was stopped and stuff weighed/put into a gauge. There was no negotiation. I was fine so didn't linger.
