I would NOT stay at the airport; it may take 1 to 1.5 hours in the morning and returning at 6 pm to the hotel does not make sense.
Absolutely stay in the city; Place Vendome is the place to be; it is very close to most things you will want to see. Bring extra cash to do some shopping around the Place Vendome.
