Interestingly when i price up lhr-bom-hkg, it states that miles earned are just over 14K which is taking into account 4 flights (LHR-BOM, BOM-HKG, HKG, BOM and BOM-LHR) so why do they count DEL-BRU, BRU-JFK as one flight even though you are taking connecting flights with different flight numbers?
because you have tecnically bought one sector....if you stop at brussels for a day or more than your ticket price will increase....this way its 2 sectors....

very lucky....not for me....they show the miles earned seperately but the flight count is not for 2 flights....

However, routes like MAA-BRU-JFK or MAA-BLR-PNQ are marketed as a single MAA-JFK or MAA-PNQ flight, so in spite of the stop, it is only credited as one flight. I've managed to work around this by taking MAA-BRU one day before BRU-JFK, and MAA-BLR on the previous flight that day. This way, I've got 2 flight credits.
as i said before, if you have a layover that lasts a day or more then it will count for 2 flights....
