Just got off the SPG chat (the reps there are very helpful) and she confirmed that for each US $ spent in a SPG property will earn 2 points and if you are Gold or Platinum, you get an extra point. Hence 3 points per US $.

And if you enroll in one of their 2X, 3X or 4X bonus, there can be some substantial points to be earned!
