I prefer the canned ones in a mustard or tomato sauce. Always on saltines. It's been years, but I have a can in my office for the next time I can't get away for lunch.

My cookbooks have lots of pictures of large sardines, usually shown grilled, but I've never seen them. I'll be in Rome and Naples next month and will be on the lookout.
