Yeah. I have not loved UA, but US product (at least domestic) has been pretty bad. UA has been tolerable in my experience and all my problems have always been on the US side of things with code shares.
US reminds me a lot of a discount carrier, only not as good. It is worse now that a lot of people are flying for convenience and not due to status privileges. Even right now if UA is not all that convenient I will fly elsewhere for domestic.

This is generally how a company would merge with another (its would be an acquisition). The company in better standing (for whatever reason) would buy the other and the other company would become a part of it (like with Kmart buying Sears a while back).
Looking at the company's financials it does not make a lot of sense. Neither company is in great shape, but I do not know enough of the contracts and other things of that nature to give an educated opinion. Analysts have been saying that there would be significant cost cutting if UA and US merged for a few years. I do not see the larger US Airways being better off, but it would be an easy way to at least move toward higher revenue flights through reducing offerings (killing redundant routes and cutting down hubs.) I do not know if the new company would be able to maintain costumership after UA becomes a part of US. Would people pay more for the luxury of flying US? I guess we will see.
