BA and Ryanair need ID. Flybe list a wide range of acceptable documents for UK domestic and Irish routes:

* Council issued bus pass (Senior Citizens only)
* Pension book (as only acceptable form of non-photographic identification)
* Young Scot Card

I wouldn't dream of flying without ID.
