The emphasis NCLB places on test scores to get funding has made public school curricula stultifying. I don't know of anyone who likes it (certainly the teachers don't).

We have historically attracted scientists from elsewhere as well as growing our own. This is one of the many issues, of course, with current visa policies in the US.
